Sketch, traditionally is a rough drawing in which an artist notes down his ideas for a work that will eventually be realized. From the 18th century, however, sketch came to take on a new meaning, which has almost come to supersede the traditional one. For sketch creating artists usually use pens or pencils. This trend led to a revaluation of sketches that had originally been created for other works. Contemporary taste, for instance, tends to value John Constable’s sketches as highly as his finished works.
